The Live Map gives you a real-time bird's-eye view of your entire fleet. Every active vehicle with a driver logged into the mobile app broadcasts its GPS position every 30 seconds. From this screen, you can monitor jobs in progress, identify delays, and respond to issues before they escalate.
Opening the Live Map
- Navigate to Fleet in the left sidebar.
- Click Live Map (or it may be your default landing page depending on your settings).
- The map loads with all vehicles as colour-coded pins on a street map.
The Live Map is also accessible from the Command Centre - a dedicated full-screen dashboard for dispatch operators. Navigate to Command Centre from the sidebar for a larger view with an industry data HUD panel.
Understanding Vehicle Pin Colours
Each vehicle on the map is represented by a pin coloured according to its current status:
| Colour | Status | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 🟢 Green | Active / In Progress | Driver is on a job and moving |
| 🟡 Amber | Idle or Warning | Vehicle stationary for extended time, or compliance caution |
| 🔴 Red | Alert | Overdue service, fatigue breach, or SOS triggered |
| ⚪ Grey | Offline | Driver not logged in or GPS signal lost |
Clicking a Vehicle Pin
Click any vehicle pin to open its info card:
- Driver Name - who's in the vehicle
- Vehicle Rego - registration number and vehicle type
- Current Job - job reference and client name (if on a job)
- Live Speed - current speed in km/h or mph (based on your regional settings)
- Last Update - timestamp of most recent GPS ping
- Battery - driver's mobile device battery level (if reported by app)
From the info card you can:
- Click View Job to open the full job record
- Click Message Driver to send a push notification to the driver's app
- Click View Profile to open the driver's compliance record
Using the Map Controls
| Control | Function |
|---|---|
| Zoom In/Out | Scroll or pinch on the map |
| Search | Find a specific driver or vehicle rego by name |
| Filter by Status | Show only Green / Amber / Red vehicles |
| Filter by Job | Show only vehicles assigned to a specific job |
| Cluster View | Automatically groups nearby pins when zoomed out |
Geofence Alerts
If you have geofences configured, the map highlights geofence boundaries as shaded zones. When a vehicle:
- Enters a geofence → the system logs the entry time
- Exits a geofence → the system logs the exit time and can trigger an alert
See Set Up Geofencing to configure alert zones.
RouteNio automatically updates a job's status to On Site when a vehicle has been within 100 metres of the delivery address for 5 consecutive minutes. The client receives a notification automatically - no driver action needed.
Route Replay
To review where a vehicle has been at any point in the past:
- Click the vehicle pin (or search for the vehicle).
- In the info card, click Route Replay.
- Set the Date and time range you want to review.
- Click Play - the route animates on the map, showing speed and stop history.
Route Replay is useful for:
- Investigating client complaints about late deliveries
- Verifying job completion when a driver hasn't updated their status
- Checking if a vehicle deviated from its planned route
GPS history is retained for 90 days on all plans. Contact support to discuss extended retention options.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Vehicle not appearing on map | Driver must be logged into the mobile app and GPS permissions enabled |
| Vehicle showing offline (grey) | Ask driver to check GPS/location permissions on their device |
| Position appears incorrect | GPS accuracy depends on device hardware and signal. Indoor locations may be approximate |
| Route Replay shows gaps | GPS updates pause if the device loses signal (tunnels, remote areas, building interiors) |
